This page outlines the changes we’ve made to comply with GDPR data protection laws.

While these specific changes are coming from changes to European data protection laws, we think privacy and security is really important and so we’re taking the opportunity to make improvements for WriteMaps users around the world.

What is GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a set of data protection laws launched by the European Commission to make Europe ‘fit for the digital age’. It is a set of laws and standards to give EU citizens more control over their personal information, enforceable from 25th May 2018.

How does GDPR relate to WriteMaps?

GDPR applies to all businesses within the European Union (EU). It also applies to businesses like WriteMaps who are outside the EU but offer goods or services to EU customers.

How has WriteMaps changed to comply with GDPR? 

  • We’ve updated our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service to make it easier for you to understand:
    • what data we collect, and why we collect that data
    • how we use the information we collect
    • how long we store that data
    • your rights regarding the data you’ve provided to us, including how to update, manage, export, and delete your data.
  • We’ve reviewed our data processors (third party providers), to ensure they are GDPR compliant
  • We’ve changed the way we gather IP addresses (for Google Analytics) to anonymise this data
  • We’ve evaluated the security and safeguards that protect your data.

Please rest assured that these changes have been made with your best interests in mind. We’re sure that changes happening around the world due to GDPR can only be positive in raising the global standard for personal data security.
