WriteMaps v2 is coming soon!
It's been a while since I've blogged on here... apologies! I just wanted to post a quick update about the next version of WriteMaps which is well underway!
The feature requests have been rolling in and I've been talking with individual WriteMaps users to see how people use the app so that this next release will address common needs. Above all, there are a few features that are in clear demand among WriteMaps users. They are:
- Wireframing: Beyond the url and notes fields, there's not much you can do currently for planning each page's content and general hierarchy.
- Page colors and/or icons: Being able to distinguish single or grouped pages in a sitemap is handy.
- Company branding: Giving your sitemaps a custom look and feel with your logo and colors.
- Import/Export Options: Saving and opening locally saved files. Also the ability to import XML sitemaps would be handy.
- Performance: Loading large sitemaps can be quite slow depending on your computer and browser
The good news is I've got several of the above features working quite well in development (though I won't say which... ). I've also tackled a multitude of minor bugs here and there and just might even have a new interface underway as well!
Stay tuned for updates as I'll probably post some screencaps as things start shaping up more. Thanks again for using WriteMaps and as always, please hit the contact form if you have any suggestions, requests, or questions!

I’m really looking forward to it!

Could you make this tool for more then just information architecture? I use it for mind mapping blog posts, and all sorts of stuff, and I’m sure others do so it might be a good idea to change… just a few words like “New Sitemap” to “New Map”, etc.

Sorry, this is my third comment. Get on twitter! Check out what @dorisapp is doing. They are a great example of how a web app can use twitter to gain feedback, etc.

Wow Joel? Shameful plug there.
Personally though I don’t see what a productivity app has anything to do with WriteMaps. And also, do we need another productivity app? that is something we don’t need.
Scott, how are we doing on this?

Nick, Joel didn’t mean you should use dorisapp, he used it as an example of how you could use twitter to get feedback. Although I don’t really think twitter would change anything, it could be a way to increase WriteMaps popularity if used properly.

I am looking forward to the next version. The application looks very promising, but I’ve noticed a few bugs that will probably keep me from using it full-time. Just gets a little buggy when at certain zoom levels a page from one row will seem to wrap to the next row causing for some confusion.
The wireframing feature will be a plus for me. Keeping as much of the early design process information in one place, the better.
Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the updates.

Great little app, very useful as it is. Really looking forward to some of the planned features for V2
Keep up the good work and I’ll even make a donation should V2 appear soon!

So, any update on version 2.0? I’m using Slickmap CSS (http://astuteo.com/slickmap/) and I’d love to go back to WriteMaps once an updated version is available.

Is V2 dead?

Writemaps has become an integral process I use in product development for my software company, FaceySpacey.com, for a year and a half. I can’t wait for the next version. What can we do to help?

Just wanted to say that I find this tool to be very useful. If you end up adding wireframing, I am sure that this will become popular very quickly. Keep up the good work!
