WriteMaps Browser Support Update
During our beta release, the primary browser we supported was Firefox. Many of our members requested that WriteMaps support the Safari web browser, and we couldn't have agreed more. Well along with our 1.0 release, we are thrilled to announce that WriteMaps now provides full support for Safari, as well as excellent support for Internet Explorer 6 and 7! As a matter of fact, Safari seems to out-perform all of the browsers we test by a noticeable margin. Its handling of the animations while expanding and collapsing sections is extremely smooth, and its speed in manipulating large sitemap files is comparable to a desktop experience.
So, if you use WriteMaps frequently and have access to Safari, we highly recommend using it!

Meh, don’t worry about Safari. WriteMaps crashed FF and IE—tried them both. Then I thought that maybe, since Apple is so proud of it’s JS engine, I should give it a try. After I tried to open my sitemap, I received an alert saying something about Recovery and asked if I wanted to save the recovered info—it was about 10% of the sitemap I left with from IE.
Obviously, I said No and returned to IE. All the data was there and no alert this time. In retrospect, had I trusted the Recovery engine, I’d have an almost empty sitemap.
Anyway, nice idea. Poor implementation.

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties. I suppose we should clarify that we are speaking of Mac Safari as our preferred browser (not Safari on PC). That said, we have had very few trouble tickets concerning browser crashes but depending on the speed of your machine, it is possible that a large sitemap file could be a asking a bit too much of your browser. WriteMaps currently uses JS to do a lot of the heavy lifting in loading maps so that it can take advantage of using the same processes for undo/redo, loading from backups, etc. We are considering ways to move this to server side so that loading happens a lot faster and is less dependent on the user’s browser setup.
If you continue to have difficulty, please use our feedback form to report it so we can give it proper attention.
Thanks.

I couldn’t agree more. The app rocks and rolls in Safari on Mac. You guys are doing a great job with the app and I use it almost exclusively when I’m working on site mape or IA’s. Keep up the great work.
